What is Oxytocin? Oxytocin is a nine-amino acid peptide hormone produced naturally in the hypothalamus and released by the posterior pituitary gland. While it's famous for its role in childbirth and breastfeeding, oxytocin is actually produced in both men and women throughout life, serving critical functions in social behavior, stress response, and physiological regulation.
